Our Mission: Working for a region with a promising future
Since its creation in 1996 by the German-African Business Association (Afrika-Verein), the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), SAFRI – the Southern Africa Initiative of German Business – has supported many different initiatives aimed at focusing attention on the economic potential of the region and further promoting German business activities in Southern Africa. Global players such as the EU and the G8 nations foster this process. The 2010 FIFA World Cup flagship project directed the world’s attention not just to South Africa, but to the region as a whole. Billions of people around the globe followed the tournament on television and received interesting impressions of life in southern Africa along the way. Even after the final whistle for this global event was blown, SADC-wide investment in infrastructure, logistics and tourism will continue to provide benefits for South Africa and her neighbours. further information
